They make it look easy on TV, but trust us: that ice is awfully hard when you fall down on it. Having fun is always one of the most important parts of curling, but being safe is at the top of the list.
Here’s the information you need to make sure your curling experience and the experience of others is a safe one!
- Ensure to take the time to warm up. Focus on stretching, strengthening, improving balance and movements prior to playing.
- Wear proper fitting shoes and clothing. Curling shoes are strongly recommended, although we do have grippers available to put over your clean running shoes if you don’t have proper curling shoes.
- Wear double grippers. It may look fun to rip up and down the ice on that slider, but until you’ve mastered it, give yourself the best opportunity to stay upright with a gripper on both feet.
- Head protection. Helmets are mandatory in any SCC Junior Program and are strongly recommended for adults as well.
